Plattsburgh State Athletics

Sergio Hernandez begins his first season as an assistant men's soccer coach at Plattsburgh State in 2025.

A native of Ossining, N.Y., Hernandez brings an international and goalkeeper-focused background to the Cardinals’ coaching staff. A three-year NCAA Division II goalkeeper at Chestnut Hill College, Hernandez also competed at the semi-professional level with the Westchester Flames in USL League Two.

Following his collegiate playing career, Hernandez spent time overseas in Portugal, where he played with Merelinense FC, S.C. Valenciano, and Atlético dos Arcos.

Alongside his playing experience, Hernandez has built a diverse coaching résumé with a strong emphasis on goalkeeper development. He served as the Director of Goalkeepers for PA Rush Soccer Club and held goalkeeper coaching roles in Portugal with LANK Vilaverdense’s U19 squad and U.D. São Veríssimo’s men’s team.

Hernandez earned his degree in Exercise Science from Chestnut Hill College.
