Melissa LaMere, the Director of Campus Recreation, begins her 17th year at Plattsburgh State in 2025-26.
LaMere oversees all of the College's intramural leagues and sports clubs, developing holistic recreational experiences for SUNY Plattsburgh students that is consistent with the overall educational mission of the College. She also serves as the coordinator of Memorial Hall, with its large renovation project that was completed in the 2023-24 academic year.Â
She also serves as an adjunct faculty member within the College's fitness and wellness major, a position she has held since 2010.
LaMere began work as an assistant director of athletics in 2017, overseeing NCAA compliance, bus travel, and department searches from 2017-21. Prior to her assistant director of athletics position, LaMere served as the assistant fitness center and recreation director at Plattsburgh State from 2008-17. In that position, she oversaw the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation of student personnel.
LaMere earned her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from The College at Brockport in 2004 and her Master of Science in Exercise Science from SUNY Cortland in 2006. She is an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist and certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED for Adults.
