Dr. Ryan arrived in Plattsburgh in 2010, first serving as an Assistant Professor of Science and a General Education Coordinator at Clinton Community College before coming to SUNY Plattsburgh in 2016 as an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences. After serving in that role for eight years, she was promoted to Associate Professor of Biological Sciences.
She received a Bachelor of Science in cellular biochemistry from SUNY Plattsburgh and her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Virginia. Her dissertation was titled "Molecular Mechanism of Huntington's Disease Pathogenesis." As an undergraduate student, she was a teaching assistant and a tutor.

During her time at SUNY Plattsburgh, Dr. Ryan has long been a valued mentor to Cardinal student-athletes. In addition to being a visible supporter of Cardinal Athletics, she is a regular invitee to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation's annual National Student-Athlete Day ceremony, an event where student-athletes personally invite a faculty/staff member who has supported them throughout their academic journey and collegiate experience.
