Kelsea Healis finished up her third year as the head women's volleyball coach at Plattsburgh State in 2023.
The 2023 season marked the best season for the program in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in a decade, as the Cardinals qualified for the SUNYAC Tournament for the first time since 2013. Plattsburgh State went 12-13 overall (3-6 SUNYAC) and earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament after winning a five-set thriller over Fredonia on the final day of the SUNYAC schedule. The win over Fredonia marked just the second for Plattsburgh State in a 14-match all-time series with Fredonia, with its only other win coming on Nov. 3, 1984. In the SUNYAC Tournament first round the six-seeded Cardinals fell to three-seeded Geneseo Knights in three sets. At the end of the season, the team had one All-SUNYAC selection as Payton Zophy earned second-team honors.Â
In her second year as head coach, Healis coached a young team to a 7-16 record (0-9 SUNYAC). The team was strong in non-conference play, finishing with a winning record against non-SUNYAC opponents for the second straight season.Â
During her first year guiding the program in 2021, Healis led the Cardinals to a 10-15 overall record (2-7 SUNYAC), marking a two-win improvement from the their most recent season of competition (2019) and their most SUNYAC victories since 2016.
Healis had most recently served as a volunteer assistant coach at SUNY Geneseo during the 2020-21 academic year prior to arriving at Plattsburgh State, assisting with the Knights’ practices during a COVID-affected year in which no SUNYAC women’s volleyball teams competed due to the pandemic.
Â
Prior to Geneseo, Healis worked as a graduate assistant coach at Alfred University for two years. At Alfred, she helped the Saxons qualify for the four-team Empire 8 Tournament in 2018, and Alfred defeated three different SUNYAC teams during her tenure with the program. In addition to her coaching duties, she advised the department’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served as an assistant NCAA site representative for the Potsdam Regional and the Ithaca Regional in consecutive years.
Â
As an undergraduate student-athlete, Healis saw action in 117 matches over four years while competing for SUNY Potsdam. She tallied 488 kills and 597 digs during her career in addition to posting 87 total blocks (14 solo, 73 assist) and 86 service aces. Healis was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Bears and worked with SAAC during her junior and senior years.
 Â
Healis, who is a native of Rohnert Park, Calif., earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Potsdam in 2018 and her Master of Business Administration from Alfred in 2020.
