Joseph Zimmerman begins his first season as assistant women’s volleyball coach at Plattsburgh State in 2024. 

During the 2024 season, Zimmerman's responsibilities included recording in-game statistics, video operations, and recruiting as the assistant coach. His in-game statistics tracking and video operations assistance helped the team have a solid offense and defense, averaging 8.2 kills per set and 12.4 digs per set. 

Zimmerman, who is a Rochester, N.Y. native, was a member of Wells College and SUNY Potsdam’s men’s volleyball teams. He saw action in 58 matches across two seasons at Wells, accumulating 388 digs and 381 kills, averaging 1.88 per set. In 2019, he helped lead the team to a 2019 NEAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament first-round win, ending his career at Wells and earning the Wells men’s volleyball Rookie of the Year Award. At Potsdam, he played in 58 matches, accumulating 711 kills, averaging 3.49 per set, and 381 digs over two seasons, earning All-NECC First Team Honors in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, Zimmerman led the conference in kills and kills per set, and after his dominant season, he was named Potsdam’s Athlete of the Year to end his career.

Alongside his playing career, he gained experience working at volleyball camps where he helped kids aged 10 – 16 develop offensive skill sets using his background as an outside hitter.

Zimmerman earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Potsdam in 2023.
