Gene Bushey enters his fifth season as a Volunteer Women’s Goalkeeper/Coach for the Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team.
In just four seasons, Bushey’s impact has been felt on the defensive end. In 2014 Plattsburgh State held teams to a sub one goals allowed average (0.86 GAA). That season Bushey was instrumental in the development of senior goaltender Danielle Schmitt in receiving NSCAA All-East Region third-team along with SUNYAC All-Conference first-team honors.
In 2015, Bushey developed freshman goaltender Nichole Gibson into becoming SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week three times, which was tied for most in the league. Gibson wsa AOTW once more in 2016 and again in 2017.
Bushey comes to SUNY Plattsburgh from Clinton Community College where he served as the Men’s Head Coach and Assistant Coach. As a result of his coaching and leadership efforts, a CCC team member was recognized with Player of the Week honors.
Bushey brings a broad a coaching and officiating background. He referred for 15 years as an NCSSOA Official and five years as a USSF Official. He is also affiliated with the J4K organization and has served as a Goalkeeper Coach for Plattsburgh Football Club.
Also relevant to Bushey’s background is his involvement with NSCAA as a Goalkeeper, Level 3 (2014) and Levels 1 & 2 (2009). He is the owner, operator, and trainer of the GGK Soccer Goalkeeper Clinic. Bushey works with athletes of all ages and abilities to hone their skills.
