After spending the 2014 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cardinals' men's lacrosse team, Brett McClelland was announced as Plattsburgh State's new assistant coach for 2015.

Before appearing on the sidelines in a coaching capacity, McClelland – a product of Oswego, N.Y. – spent three seasons stationed in the midfield for the Cardinals. During his playing career – which ran from 2011 until 2013 – McClelland amassed some 98 points (65 goals, 33 assists) and found himself of the receiving end of an All-SUNYAC Second Team honor during a 2013 season that also saw him haul in the Cardinals' most valuable player award.

McClelland graduated from Plattsburgh State in December of 2013 with a bachelor's degree in history.
