Steve Moffat will enter his 16th year as the Plattsburgh State men's hockey assistant coach in the 2018-19 season

Moffat returned to the Plattsburgh State men's hockey coaching staff as an assistant coach in the 2016-17 season after having served as the head coach at Castleton University for three years.

Moffat's chief responsibilities include recruiting, game-film breakdown, assisting with game and practice preparation, monitoring academic success of student-athletes and team travel.  In addition, he serves as an event manager for men's lacrosse and organizes the Cardinals' annual benefit dinner for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"Steve comes back with a ton of experience," Emery stated. "We are very fortunate that he was interested in coming back. He is very approachable and is a very good coach. I worked with him for years, and we had some great teams. He is a very close friends with almost all of the former players he has coached during his time at Plattsburgh State. I am sure he will find the transition seamless."

During his three seasons at the helm of Castleton's men's ice hockey program, he led the Spartans to two appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East semifinals. Throughout the course of his tenure directing Castleton's program, he earned wins over a pair of nationally-ranked teams, Norwich University and Babson College, and he helped freshman Fabio Klay earn New England Hockey Conference Rookie of the Year honors in 2015-16.

Before Castleton, Moffat was the assistant coach at Plattsburgh State for 13 years. In his 13 year tenure, the Cardinals enjoyed a wealth of success posting a 269-96-29 (.720 win percentage) overall record and a .772 (144-39-10) win percentage in the SUNYAC. The Cardinals won seven SUNYAC Championships and one NCAA Division III National Championship during Moffat's time.

A two-time All-American, including first-team honors in 1997-98, Moffat finished his stellar career at Plattsburgh with 106 goals, which is third all-time in school annals, and 203 points, sixth all-time.  He was a back-to-back honoree for the Plattsburgh State Male Athlete of the Year in 1997 and '98 during his junior and senior seasons.

After his college graduation, Moffat played professionally in the East Coast Hockey League for the Northeast Division champion Columbus Chill in 1998-99. The following season, he helped the Florida Everblades with the ECHL's best record and 2000 Southeast Division crown.

His post-graduate accolades include the Cardinal Hockey All-Decade Team for 1995-2004 era and induction into the Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2010.

A 1998 graduate of Plattsburgh State with a bachelor's degree in sociology, Moffat earned a 2002 master's degree in school counseling, also at the College.

He had worked at Seton Catholic High School in Plattsburgh as a counselor before joining Emery's staff full time.

An avid golfer, Moffat is a member of the American Hockey Coaches Association.
