Biography
2013-14 (Senior): Shunted aside any and all qualms about his health by turning in a sparkling senior season... took on the title of team captain... along with fellow senior Chris Manning, took part and started in each of the Cardinals' 30 bouts... no member of the Cardinals amassed more minutes played (880)... wrapped up the season ranked second on the team in scoring and first in rebounding... saved some of his best basketball for last by collecting career-highs in scoring (13 ppg), rebounding (9.3 per game) and free throw shooting (69.3 percent)... only three other men in the SUNYAC boasted better rebounding numbers through the course of the season...netted double-digits in the scoring column in all but 10 of Plattsburgh State's tilts... submitted two separate five-game stretches of 10 or more rebounds... eclipsed his previous career high with a 28-point per formance on 9-of-16 shooting in a road triumph over New Paltz (1/17)... closed out his Memorial Hall career in style by producing a dazzling double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds in a second-round NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament triumph over Eastern Connecticut (3/8)... placed on the All-SUNYAC Second Team for the second consecutive season.
2012-13 (Junior): Remained the unquestioned leader of the squad until a season-ending injury derailed his plans to help the Cardinals capture a SUNYAC title and make a run in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament... witnessed improvements almost across the board in the various statistical categories while starting each of the 21 engagements he was healthy for... failed to register at least 10 points on just seven occasions and maintained the second-best scoring average on the squad (11.6 points per game)... no man on the team - and few in the SUNYAC - cleaned up the glass better... ripped down rebounds at a team-best clip of 7.3 per contest which helped him become the fourth-best performer in the conference in that particular category... earned the distinction as one of only four Cardinals to have a field goal percentage north of .500 (.511)... matched a career-high by pouring in 20 points at Oneonta State (2/1)... grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds on a pair of occasions - both of which happened outside of Memorial Hall... appeared well on his was to a career game against SUNY Potsdam, amassing 14 points in 15 minutes until a leg injury drew the curtain on his season (2/12)... carved out a spot for himself on the All-SUNYAC Second Team.
2011-12 (Sophomore): Served as one of the Cardinals main offensive threats in his second season...second on the team in scoring with an average of 12.3 points per game and a total of 308 points...led the team in field goal percentage after shooting .513...enjoyed a standout year in rebounding, leading the team in rebounds with 158 and rebounds per game with 6.3...also led the team in steals with 34.
2010-11 (Freshman): Appeared in 23 games … Made collegiate debut against Lyndon State and recorded one blocked shot and one steal (Nov. 15) … Had a career-high six rebounds against Buffalo State (Jan. 22) … Had a career-high nine points against Oneonta (Dec. 4).
High School: Three-year letterman at North Rockland located in Thiells, N.Y....2010 NRHS Player of the Year as a senior...named most valuable player of the Slam Dunk Tournament...earned all-tricounty, -conference and -section honors...helped team to a pair of sectional Final Four berths and county championship.
Personal: Born John Luis Perez on Aug. 26, 1991 in the Dominican Republic...nickname is "J.P."...mother's name is Rosa...business major.
