Chris Manning

Chris Manning, a former two-time All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selection and student assistant coach at Plattsburgh State, will be entering his third season as the assistant men's basketball coach for the Cardinals in the 2018-19 season.

Manning was recently one of 30 honorees that was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2017-18 Under Armour 30-under-30.

Manning assisted the Cardinals in a memorable 2017-18 season where they went 24-5 overall, 17-1 in the conference, won the SUNYAC title and made it to the third round of the NCAA DIII tournament.

"I thought that once Cam left, Chris was a natural fit for this position," Curle said. "He knows what our program stands for, and he knows our recruiting base well and how to identify with them. As a player here, he was outstanding. Chris was a great team leader and captain. Chris worked on staff here as a student assistant for a season, and he provided insight well beyond his years. At St. Lawrence, he gained outside experience and perspective that helped him tremendously as a basketball coach. The bottom line is that I'm excited to have him here as a part of the program, and I'm proud to bring home a former player to Cardinal Basketball."

Manning served as the assistant coach at St. Lawrence University in 2015-16, where he helped guide the Saints to the Liberty League Tournament title game. Prior to St. Lawrence, Manning worked as a student assistant on Curle's staff in 2014-15.

Manning has also coached at various basketball camps and clinics, including Hoop Group Elite Camp, Game 7 Camp and the Long Island Lutheran Basketball Camp.

"I definitely think this is a great opportunity for me," Manning said. "I'm honored that Coach wants me in this position, and I'm ready to get back to work."

He starred as a point guard for Plattsburgh State during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, and he led NCAA Division III in steals his senior season (95) and steals per game (3.83) his junior year. With Manning running the point, the Cardinals made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament and went 44-15 overall.

Throughout the course of his career at Plattsburgh State, he averaged 5.8 points per game, 5.5 assists per game, 4.1 rebounds per game and 3.5 steals per game. Despite wearing a Cardinal uniform for only two seasons, Manning finished his career with the fourth-most steals (206) in program history. In 2012-13, he established the program's single-season assists record (175) after averaging six per game.

Prior to his time at Plattsburgh State, Manning competed at a pair of NCAA Division II schools: Molloy College and Long Island University-Post.

A native of Baldwin, N.Y., Manning was a standout guard for Baldwin High School, leading his team to the Long Island championship while earning the Nassau County Player of the Year award and being named to the Newsday All-Long Island Team.

Manning graduated from Plattsburgh State with a degree in individualized studies.
