Prior to Plattsburgh State: Took a long trip south after his prep career, playing for the University of Tampa for one season at the junior varsity level.

High School: Spent four years at the varsity level as a hurler for Manhattan Center... played for the Boricua All-Stars, a club team in the Bronx.

Personal: Born Rafael Ponce on June 7, 1992, in New York, N.Y. ... son of Rafael and Gladys Ponce... enjoys listening to music, playing basketball and traveling to new places... majoring in management information systems with a minor in supply chain management at Plattsburgh State.
