Sam Quinn-Loeb, who served as the assistant coach for the Cardinals for three seasons, begins his fourth year as the head baseball coach at Plattsburgh State in 2025.
In 2025, Quinn-Loeb coached the Cardinals to a 12-21 overall record and a 4-14Â State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record. A rain-soaked season, the Cardinals finished the season on a high note, winning three of their last four, including a series win over Fredonia.Â
In 2024, Quinn-Loeb led the Cardinals to their best season since 2010, as the team finished 24-16 and 10-8 in the SUNYAC and made the SUNYAC tournament for the second time in three years under Quinn-Loeb. The team's overall wins were the most since 2010, and the conference wins tied a program record set in 2010. Quinn-Loeb helped coach three All-SUNYAC honorees, including the SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year Alex Kornblau, who was also named to the all-conference second team. Andrew Veit earned first-team honors as a pitcher while Kyle Cremin made his third straight appearance on the all-conference second team. The Cardinals picked series wins over eventual SUNYAC champs New Paltz, Brockport, and Oneonta, also sweeping Fredonia for the second straight year. The team was also regionally ranked in each iteration of the NCAA Regional Rankings, getting as high as fifth in the seven-team Region 3 rankings.Â
In 2023, Quinn-Loeb guided the Cardinals to a 15-20 season, finishing with an identical record in conference play as the year before (7-11) but missed out on the playoffs. The team had two all-conference selections in his second year as head coach, with Kyle Cremin again earning second-team honors, and Chris Santic also earning second-team plaudits.Â
In his first year as head coach, Quinn-Loeb led the Cardinals to one of their best seasons in recent memory as the team finished 21-19, the team's best record since the 2012 season when they made the SUNYAC Tournament with a 22-17 record. The team made their first SUNYAC tournament appearance since the 2012 season as well, earning the #4 seed on the final day of the regular season. Quinn-Loeb had one student-athlete named to the All-SUNYAC team as well in his first year as the head coach, as Kyle Cremin was a second-team selection.Â
Â
While serving on former head coach Kris Doorey's staff, Quinn-Loeb helped the Cardinals come within at least a game of qualifying for the SUNYAC Tournament in each of the past two seasons. In 2021, the Cardinals ranked among the top four in the SUNYAC in batting average and on-base percentage.
Â
Prior to arriving at Plattsburgh State, Quinn-Loeb completed stints as an assistant coach at Salve Regina University in 2018, Cazenovia College from 2014-17, and D'Youville College from 2012-14.
Â
In addition to his collegiate baseball coaching experience, Quinn-Loeb has served as head coach of the Jackson Rockabillys (Prospect League, 2024) (Plattsburgh Thunderbirds (Empire Baseball League, 2021-2023), the Geneva Snowcats (Interstate Collegiate Baseball League, 2020), the Newark Pilots (Perfect Games Collegiate Baseball League, 2019), the Wellsville Nitros (New York Collegiate Baseball League, 2017) and the Geneva Red Wings (Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, 2016). He also served as a player-coach for the Road City Explorers of the Empire Pro League in 2015.
Â
Quinn-Loeb has also served as an instructor for Syracuse Baseball Prep (2015-17) and as a head coach and instructor for Academy Stars Baseball (2012-14).
Â
The Hamburg, N.Y., native played collegiate baseball at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute for three years. While playing at SUNYIT (now SUNY Poly), he was named North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Second Team All-Conference in 2012. SUNYIT reached the NEAC Tournament all three seasons he was there, including reaching the tournament championship game in 2010. The Wildcats were also NEAC West Division regular-season champions in 2011. He was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for two years. Prior to SUNYIT, Quinn-Loeb played one year of baseball at Delaware Valley College.
Â
Quinn-Loeb graduated from SUNYIT in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and a minor in accounting. He received his Master of Science in fitness and wellness leadership at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2022.Â
