  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Baseball Coach
Former Plattsburgh State baseball and soccer standout Gary Butler completed his 15th season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Cardinals in 2020.

From 1962-64, Butler starred on the mound for the Cardinals, amassing the most strikeouts of any Plattsburgh State pitcher (152) - a record that stands to this day. The 1963 All-SUNYAC performer still owns the second-highest number of strikeouts in one season in the Plattsburgh State annals (60).

The 1964 team captain and MVP went on to serve as a scout for the MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates and Montreal Expos following the conclusion of his playing career. A 1996 Plattsburgh State Sports Hall of Fame Inductee also coached varsity baseball at Beekmantown High School for nearly 30 years, guiding a handful of players into professional baseball.Â
