Plattsburgh State Athletics

2013 (Senior): Accepted a promotion to the starting rotation and proceeded to put together one of the best single-season pitching performances in the Plattsburgh State annals... had few peers in the SUNYAC while leading the team in wins (six) and racking up nearly as many innings pitched in his final collegiate campaign (66.2) as he had in his first three seasons (68.2)... rolled up the best ERA (2.03) in the seven-team league while firing a conference-high five complete games through the season... only two other conference pitchers possessed a lower opponent batting average... reset his career high by striking out seven SUNY Canton batters in the final game of 2013 (4/30)... earned spots on the All-SUNYAC Second Team as well as the ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region Third Team.

2012 (Junior): Pitched 26 innings for the Cardinals compiling a 3-2 record...notched an ERA of 3.71...struckout 22 batters.

2011 (Sophomore): Had 11 relief appearances … Earned first career win by throwing one-hit ball in 1.2 innings against New Paltz (March 29) … Made first collegiate start at Oneonta (April 21) with a no-decision … Threw 3.1 innings of no-hit ball with two strikeouts against Cortland (April 7).  

2010 (Freshman): Pitched three relief innings of scoreless, 1-hit ball in his college debut during the Cardinals' season-opening March 4 loss to Manchester, striking out four batters.   

High School:  Three-year letterman under baseball coach Merrill Connor at Ellenville, N.Y....also played a year of football, earning All-Section IX honorable mention at quarterback and Daily Freeman First Team honors as a placekicker in 2008...2007 conference football champions...also lettered three times in soccer and once in basketball...National Honor Society inductee.

Personal:  Born Brian C. Burns on June 12, 1990 in Ellenville, N.Y....attended Cortland State from Aug. 2008 to Dec. 2009, but didn't play for the Red Dragons...parents are John and Susan...father played football at Plattsburgh State...brother, Matt, played baseball for the Cardinals (2007-10) and they were teammates in 2010 when Matt was a senior... nickname is the Freaky Franchise ... political science major, with a minor in international studies.
