Built for the 1999 debut of the Plattsburgh State softball program, Cardinal Park on the Field House grounds is among the best facilities of its kind in the State University of New York Athletic Conference as well as the region.
A two-level press box is staffed by a public-address announcer, statisticians and scoreboard operator on the top floor, and print and electronic media are housed on the bottom floor. The outfield fence stands 200 feet from home plate and features an electronic scoreboard in left field. Both teams have bullpens down the lines and the dugouts are fully covered. The facility has bleacher seating behind home plate and in the outfield, seating 250.
The complex served as the home of the 2006 SUNYAC Tournament, when the Cardinals won their first conference championship and advanced to the national tournament. The Cardinals beat Middlebury 8-3 in their home debut on April 6, 1999, and have gone on to win 78 percent (96-27-1) of their games at the Park going into the 2010 season. It also has hosted high school playoff contests, the 2008 SUNYAC Championship and the NCAA "Plattsburgh" Regional that year.
