Plattsburgh State Athletics

2009 (Junior):  Had a breakthrough year in which he batted .319 during first full-season as Plattsburgh's starting catcher...22 runs batted in...led club with four sacrifice flies...played in 28 games. 

2008 (Sophomore): Had a .387 on-base percentage...tied a career high with three RBI and scored four times in win over St. Michael’s (April 25).

2007 (Freshman): Hit .286 in limited action...17 total bases for a .405 slugging percentage...had a .455 on-base percentage...homered and had a career-high three RBI at Rensselaer (May 1)...went 6-for-11 (.545) with five runs scored and four RBI during a four-game stretch from Mar. 12-15.

High School: Earned nine letters in baseball (4), football (1), basketball (2), soccer (1) and golf (1) at Ellenville…baseball coach was Merrill Conner…third-team all-conference and baseball team MVP…batted .417 with 21 RBI as a senior…scored 19 runs…academic all-conference.

Personal:  Born Matthew Thomas Burns on Aug. 7, 1988 in Goshen, N.Y….will serve as team's co-captain in 2010...son of John '79 and Susan Burns…father played football when Plattsburgh State fielded a program, and mother is also a graduate of the College…younger brother, Brian, is a freshman teammate with the Cardinals...history secondary education major.
