CANTON, N.Y. – After a weekend off, the Plattsburgh State men's cross country team returned to action at St. Lawrence, competing in the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals finished fifth, led by senior Zander Brown (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), who ran 27:35.9 for 30th place, a new personal best.

A few places behind him was graduate student Samuel Van Auken (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville), who placed 38th in 27:56.6 in his first collegiate 8K race. Junior Brody Serfass (Endwell, N.Y./Maine Endwell) followed in 45th at 28:16.8, also recording a new personal best. Sophomore Brennan Muecke (Beamus Point, N.Y./Maple Grove) and first-year Sean Dormann (Saranac, N.Y./Saranac) rounded out the Cardinals' scoring lineup, placing 53rd in 28:33.5 and 58th in 28:44.9, respectively.

The next Cardinals to finish were sophomore Bryton Mandigo (Hartford, N.Y./Hartford) and senior Matthias Lauvau (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck). Mandigo placed 62nd in 29:14.8, setting a new personal best, while Lauvau was close behind in 65th at 29:22.8.

Other runners of note included first-year Everett Probeck (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central), sophomore Sean Rose (Peru, N.Y./Peru Central), and first-years Matt Rombold (Endwell, N.Y./Maine Endwell) and Myles Hoffman (Medway, Mass./Medway), who all competed in their first collegiate 8K. Probeck finished in 30:15.0, Rose recorded a time of 30:23.9, Rombold crossed the line in 30:35.0, while Hoffman finished in 31:18.3.

The Cardinals will be back in action in two weeks, traveling to Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 3.
