Cardinals Stay Unbeaten at The Spring Games with 9–2 Win Over Keuka

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Plattsburgh State softball team continued play at The Spring Games on Monday morning, earning a convincing 9–2 victory over Keuka College. The matchup marked just the second meeting in program history between the two teams, with the only previous contest coming in 2007.

The Cardinals wasted little time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Gwen Noll (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led off with a double and later scored on an RBI single from Meghan Stork (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa). Later in the frame, Maya Weinerman (East Northport, N.Y./Elwood John Glenn)added an RBI single up the middle, and Allison Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa) followed with an RBI single to give Plattsburgh an early 3–0 lead. Keuka answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Hailey Jasinski delivered a two-run single to left-center to cut the deficit to 3–2.

Plattsburgh quickly responded in the second inning. Sara Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa) drove in two runs with a single up the middle, and Megan Pillus (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) added an RBI groundout to extend the Cardinals' advantage to 6–2. The Cardinals continued to build their lead in the third when Stork singled through the left side to plate another run, making it 7–2. Plattsburgh added insurance in the fifth inning. Sara Isaacs brought home a run on a fielder's choice before Pillus drove in another with a single to push the lead to 9–2.

In the circle, Evelyn Paul (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) earned the win after tossing four innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five. Cadey Wheat (Edwards, N.Y./Edwards-Knox) worked a scoreless inning in relief to help secure the victory.

Offensively, the Cardinals totaled 15 hits in the game. Stork led the way with three hits and two RBIs, while Allison Isaacs also collected three hits and scored twice. Noll added two hits and two runs scored, and Sara Isaacs finished with three RBIs.

The contest was called in the middle of the sixth inning due to lightning, with Plattsburgh holding the 9–2 advantage.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 3–2 on the season and will be back in action for day three of The Spring Games as they take on the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point at 10 a.m., followed by Knox College with first pitch scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
