Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Clarkson in Non-Conference Matchup

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team dropped a 22-1 non-conference matchup to Clarkson on Wednesday evening at the Field House Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Senior attacker Erica Dickinson (Yaphank, N.Y. / Bellport) notched Plattsburgh's lone goal.

Sophomore attacker Ashley O'Hara (Chittenango, N.Y. / The Hill School) tallied an assist and added three ground balls to the overall effort. Both Chase Calandra (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) and Ava Parsons (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) finished with two caused turnovers on the defensive end. First-year Lauren Piscazzi (Merrick, N.Y. / John F. Kennedy) made five saves in her debut in net, taking the loss.

For the Golden Knights, Makenna Cassin led the way with five goals, while Gabby Cranfield totaled five points on three goals and two assists. Karli Scherpf recorded eight draw controls, and Riley Donovan earned the win in net.

Clarkson finished with advantages in shots (35-4) and draw controls (19-6), while narrowly controlling ground balls, 22-13. On clears, Plattsburgh went 4-for-20 compared to Clarkson's 8-for-14.

The Golden Knights opened the game on a seven-goal run before Dickinson was able to get Plattsburgh on the board. O'Hara slipped a pass to a cutting Dickinson, who finished top left to beat the goalie and cut the deficit to 7-1 with 4:54 remaining. Clarkson added a late goal with 0:20 on the clock, sending Plattsburgh into the second quarter trailing 8-1.

However, Plattsburgh was unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way as Clarkson added six goals in the second quarter, five in the third, and three in the fourth.

The Cardinals' defense, led by Parsons and Sloane Carr (Victor, N.Y. / Victor), worked to slow the Golden Knights' attack in the second half, but the offense couldn't generate a comeback opportunity as Plattsburgh ultimately fell 22-1.

With the loss, Plattsburgh State falls to 1-3 and returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 19, when the team travels to the University of Hartford for a 1 p.m. draw control.
