Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Non-Conference Battle with Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team fell 22-6 to Clarkson in a non-conference matchup on the road Wednesday evening. Junior attacker Peter Urso (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) led the Cardinals with a two-goal, multi-point effort.

Senior midfielder Tim Keenan (Poughquag, N.Y. / Arlington) and sophomore midfielder Matt White (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) each added a goal, with White recording his first goal as a Cardinal. On the defensive end, sophomores Ethan Francey (Canton, N.Y. / Canton) and Noah Hilleboe (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) each collected three ground balls, while junior defender Fynn Whitlock (Middlebury, Vt. / Middlebury Union) contributed two caused turnovers. Junior goalie Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) made 14 saves in the loss for Plattsburgh.

For the Golden Knights, Robert Fox led the way with six points on two goals and four assists, while Connor Holly added four points with two goals and two assists. Gabe Vassallo won nine faceoffs, and Griffin Emerson made five saves in net to secure the win for Clarkson.

Clarkson held advantages in shots (58-24) and ground balls (43-19) and edged Plattsburgh on faceoffs, 18-12. The Cardinals were strong on clears, converting 14-of-20 attempts, while Clarkson went a perfect 18-of-18. In man-up opportunities, Plattsburgh had two chances but came up scoreless, while the Golden Knights converted three of six.

While Clarkson struck first, Plattsburgh quickly answered as Jamie Gipe (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) scored the equalizer with 12:20 remaining. Rolling off a screen, Gipe went left and fired a low shot to tie the game at 1-1. Clarkson then went on a six-goal run before Urso ended the streak, cutting the deficit to 7-2 at the 3:12 mark.

Another run from the Golden Knights extended their lead, as the Cardinals were held scoreless in the second quarter and went into halftime trailing 12-2.

Urso scored the first goal after the break, cutting the deficit to 12-3 with 12:38 remaining in the third quarter, and White added another goal with 6:37 left to bring the score to 14-4. Clarkson responded with three goals to close out the quarter, extending their lead to 17-4.

The Cardinals added two more goals in the fourth quarter, with Keenan and Lucas Longhitano (Lake George, N.Y. / Queensbury) finding the back of the net. George Rhatigan (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central) assisted on Keenan's goal, but Plattsburgh's late offensive push wasn't enough, and the Cardinals ultimately fell 22-6.

With the loss, Plattsburgh State drops to 3‑2 and will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 14, when the Cardinals host VTSU‑Castleton for a 12 p.m. faceoff.
