Cardinals Edge Oswego on Senior Day, Extend Unbeaten Streak Against Lakers

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team continued its strong start to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, earning a 1-0 victory over Oswego on Senior Day following Wednesday's 3-1 road win over Delhi. The Cardinals entered the matchup looking to maintain their longstanding success against the Lakers, having not lost to Oswego since 2010.

After a scoreless opening half, both teams continued to battle defensively into the second half. Plattsburgh held the advantage in attacking opportunities, outshooting Oswego 4-0 in the first half before generating six more attempts after the break.

The Cardinals finally broke through in the 78th minute when senior Michael Rodriguez (Jefferson Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) scored his third goal of the season at 77:02 to give Plattsburgh the decisive 1-0 lead. Senior Jake McGowan (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and first-year Noah Magee (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) were credited with assists on the game-winning goal, helping the Cardinals capitalize on their attacking pressure late in the contest.

Plattsburgh's defense held strong over the final minutes to preserve the shutout, limiting Oswego to just three shots throughout the match, with only one reaching the target. The Cardinals finished with a 10-3 advantage in total shots and a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.

With the victory, Plattsburgh State improves to 6-3-3 overall and 3-0-1 in SUNYAC play. The Cardinals will return to action Wednesday at home as they continue conference play against Canton.
