Top-Ranked Hobart Tops Plattsburgh in Conference Clash

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team remained at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena Friday night as SUNYAC play continued, hosting the No. 1-ranked Hobart Statesmen. Coming off a 3–1 victory over Potsdam last weekend, the Cardinals aimed to build momentum against a Hobart squad fresh off three consecutive national championships and an active 29-game unbeaten streak entering conference competition.

Hobart brought its potent attack to Plattsburgh and struck early, posting three first-period goals in a dominant opening frame. Easton Ryan opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first period, followed closely by a tally from Tanner Daniels and Arvega Hovsepyan's marker to give the Statesmen a commanding 3–0 lead after 20 minutes. Hobart continued its push in the second, with Tamas Toth extending the advantage and Ryan adding a power-play goal at 10:15. The Statesmen weren't finished in the third, as Dominic Schimizzi and a second goal from Hovsepyan in quick succession capped the scoring in the 7–0 victory.

The Statesmen outshot Plattsburgh 53–22 and controlled play in all three periods. Hobart netminder Damon Beaver posted a shutout, turning aside all 22 Plattsburgh attempts. For the Cardinals, goaltenders Brady Spry (Belleville, Ontario) and Beau Lane (Pembroke, Mass.)combined for 46 saves, with Spry facing the bulk of Hobart's offense.

With the defeat, the Cardinals fall to 8–9 overall and 4–6 in SUNYAC play. The team will be back in action tomorrow as they remain at home to host No. 4 ranked Oswego at 7 p.m.
