Two errors in the first inning, along with two walks to start the game, allowed Fredonia to score four first-inning runs despite just one hit to carry a comfortable cushion throughout the game.
The Cardinals got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, as Beninati crushed a ball to left center field, just over the fence for his second homer of the season, putting the Cards down 4-1.
In the third, the Blue Devils were able to tack on two more runs, to extend their lead to 6-1. After consecutive scoreless frames from both starters, Fredonia knocked Clarkson out of the game in the seventh after a leadoff walk and proceeded to score four runs to take a 10-1 lead.
Plattsburgh would not go quietly, as Cremin walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth and Ross walked as well, setting up Beninati's two-out two-run triple. After the triple, Rainville singled home Beninati to trim the deficit to six runs. The Cards added one more run in the ninth on Cremin's program record-tying double, but were unable to add any more runs to fall 10-5 in game one.
Game Two: Plattsburgh 11, Fredonia 6
In game two, a three-run first inning for Plattsburgh set them up to lead throughout the game, while the starter Kohn was excellent in his final career outing. The graduate student right-hander went five innings, striking out four, and allowing just one unearned run while scattering three hits and three walks.
Suafoa was 2-5 with three RBI, while both Cremin and Wein went 2-4 for Plattsburgh. Beninati was 1-3 with two runs scored, two RBI, and two walks, and Kornblau reached twice on two walks, scoring twice and had a sacrifice fly as well. Diaz went two innings out of the bullpen, and Goldberg tossed a scoreless ninth to give the Cards the win.
In the first, Di Rocco singled to lead off the game, and after moving to second on a groundout, Kornblau walked, and both batters moved up a base on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, Beninati smoked a ball to right-center, scoring both runners and putting the Cards ahead 2-0. Beninati proceeded to swipe second base and advanced to third as the errant throw got away from the middle infield of the Blue Devils. The following throw to third also got away from Fredonia, and Beninati scored on the play.
As Kohn gave the Cardinals scoreless frames on the bump, the Cardinals added to their three-run lead in the third, as Suafoa beat out an infield hit to score Kornblau, who had walked to lead off the inning.
In the fifth, Fredonia tacked on an unearned run in the top of the fifth, cutting the Cardinal lead to 4-1.
Plattsburgh gave itself a comfortable cushion on the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs on three hits and two errors in the inning. Two runs scored just three batters into the frame on a Di Rocco sacrifice bunt that was thrown down the right field line, scoring Catrambone, who had walked to lead off the inning, and Wein, who had singled in the previous at-bat. After a Cremin infield single that was thrown errantly to put runners on second and third, Kornblau brought home a run on a sacrifice fly, and Ross then singled home Cremin to put Plattsburgh up 8-1.
In the eighth, the Blue Devils got the Cardinal bullpen, tacking on five runs on four hits, as Tyler Curtis started the parade with a two-run triple.
The Cardinals were not content with a two-run lead in the ninth and added three runs in the bottom half of the inning, as Cremin started the rally in his final at-bat with a one-out double, setting a new program record. With two outs, the Cards then got a rally going as back-to-back walks set up an RBI HBP by Diltz , and then Suafoa put the team up five runs with a two-run double to right-center in his final at-bat.
In the ninth, Goldberg worked around a one-out single to close out the Plattsburgh State baseball 2025 season with a win.
