Women's Tennis Concludes 2024-25 Season with SUNYAC Tournament Semifinal Loss to Top-Seeded New Paltz

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team concluded their season in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) semifinals, falling to top-seeded New Paltz 4-0.

The fourth-seeded Cardinals, who advanced to their first SUNYAC tournament since 2017, finished the season at 7-6 (2-3 SUNYAC). New Paltz improves to 11-7 and will take on Oswego State tomorrow, April 26, in the SUNYAC Championship.

The Hawks got things rolling off the bat, winning the point from the three doubles matches, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match with Hallie Hurwitz (Beekmantown, N.Y./Beekmantown) and Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) was unfinished, but the pair did manage to take a game in their match.

New Paltz was able to get the 4-0 win as they were victorious at No. 4 singles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles. Plattsburgh was able to win some matches along the way; however, even in the losses, the final loss at No. 5 singles with Cantwell saw the junior pick up a win in a 0-6, 1-6 decision.

The team will lose four total seniors, counting Megan Phelps (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa), who graduated in December, as Andrea Bingham (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park), Sophia Gottschall (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh), and Hurwitz depart to graduation.
