NORTHFIELD, Vt. – After trailing by double-digits in the fourth quarter, the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team mounted a late comeback using a 5-0 scoring run to end the game but ultimately fell 19-13 against Norwich in non-conference road action on Wednesday evening. Senior attacker

Peter Urso (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) both recorded four points as Walsh netted two goals and two assists and Urso a career-high three goals, recording the first goal of his collegiate career and added an assist.
Senior midfielder
Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) tallied three points on two assists and one goal.
Ely Bruhns (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa),
Ethan Francey (Canton, N.Y. / Canton), and
James Henningsen (North Bellmore, N.Y. / Mepham) all put in two goals with Francey and Henningsen recording the first goals of their collegiate career. First-year attacker
Brayden Shattuck (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) also scored the first goal of his collegiate career.
For the Cadets, Drew Fleury had a game-high eight points off six goals and two assists followed by Christian Rainis with five points, recording a hat trick and two assists. Chris Smith also netted a hat trick while Jack Marcotte was the last player with a multi-goal game with two.
The shot battle was close as Norwich had the slight edge 41-40 as well as a 48-43 advantage in ground balls. Plattsburgh won the faceoff battle 20-14 and was solid on extra-man opportunities, going 2-5 while the Cadets only went 3-12. On clears, Plattsburgh was 8-14 and Norwich 11-19.
Plattsburgh State falls to 1-1 and next travels to Russell Sage on Saturday, Mar. 1 with a 12 p.m. opening faceoff. Norwich moves to 1-1 and next travels to United State Coast Guard Academy on Saturday, March 1.
Urso got the scoring started in the first less than a minute into the game before Chris Smith scored a man-up goal, tying the game at 1. It was Urso again for the Cardinals followed by Shattuck with the first goal of his career as Woods tallied the assists on both goals, giving Plattsburgh a 3-1 lead at the 9:02 mark. However, the Cadets ended the first with four straight goals and took a 5-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After a Walsh pass led to a goal from Woods to start the second quarter, the Cadets went on another scoring run led by Fleury with two goals and extended their lead to 9-4. Another Walsh pass, this time finding Henningsen for the first goal of his career at the 2:14 mark ended the run momentarily, but Norwich scored seven unanswered goals led by Smith with two and pushed their lead to 16-5 with 5:09 remaining in the third and went into the fourth quarter with an 18-6 lead.
The fourth quarter saw the Cardinals outscore the Cadets 7-1 as Plattsburgh rallied late but couldn't make up the deficit. Walsh opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back unassisted goals before Rainis broke up the run and made the score 19-8 Cadets at the 10:09 mark. The Cardinals went on a scoring burst to end the game, scoring the last five goals with goals from Bruhns, Henningsen, Francey, and Urso, but ultimately fell 19-13.

Jack Mulcahy (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Arlington) took the loss in net for Plattsburgh, recording five saves in 30 minutes of action, while sophomore goalie
Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) made a career-high six saves in 30 minutes of action. Mason Dils earned the win in net for Norwich, recording 11 saves in 45 minutes of action, while Logan Mast made five saves in 15 minutes of action.
