PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19) decision to Skidmore in their season finale on Friday evening at Memorial Hall.
Junior outside hitter
Iris Mulvey (Middle Island, N.Y. / Longwood) led the offense with eight total points off six kills and two service aces, while first-year setter
Emily O'Brien (Monroe, N.Y. / Monroe-Woodbury) set up the Cardinal attack with 10 assists to go with 10 digs for a double-double. Defensively, senior libero
Bridget Ryan (Mattituck, N.Y. / Mattituck) led all players in digs with 19 and got support up top from senior middle blocker
Sanaia Estime (West Hempstead, N.Y. / West Hempstead) with two block assists.
For the Thoroughbreds, Chloe Heitman led all players in kills with 15, set up by Catriona Hoelperl with a game-high 26 assists. Marlowe McIntyre led the team defensively with 17 digs.
Overall, for the match, Skidmore had a slight advantage in digs (64-61) and had the edge in service aces (11-3) and blocks (4-2).
In the first set, Skidmore took an early lead, and the Cardinals rallied back, scoring three straight points to make the score 10-7 Thoroughbreds. Later in the set, the Cardinals put down back-to-back kills from Mulvey and
Kyleigh Ganz (Phoenix, Ariz. / Seton Catholic Prep), but couldn't come back and dropped the first set 25-18.
After a 4-0 burst from Plattsburgh, capped off by an O'Brien service ace, Skidmore controlled the second set thanks to a 5-0 run that made the score 10-7 Thoroughbreds and flipped the momentum. A kill from
Darby Collyear (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall) ended a long Skidmore rally, but the Cardinals couldn't muster any offense and fell 25-11 in the second set.
The Cardinals battled in the third and final set after a 3-0 surge, featuring a Mulvey kill, tied the set at 8, and then back-to-back kills from Mulvey and O'Brien made the score 10-9 Cardinals. Halfway through the set, the score was tied 15-15 until a Skidmore run gave the Thoroughbreds a 19-15 lead.
Maggie Lyon (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) put down a kill to end the run, but Skidmore outscored Plattsburgh 6-3 the rest of the way and won the set 25-19, securing a 3-0 match victory.
Plattsburgh State concludes its 2025 campaign with a 9-16 overall record. Skidmore moves to 15-9 overall and next hosts Vassar on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in a Liberty League Tournament first-round match.
