Cardinals Fall to Top-Ranked Hobart After Hard-Fought Battle

GENEVA, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State Cardinals men's hockey team entered the weekend facing a daunting challenge. After a heart-breaking, last-second loss to Oswego State yesterday, the Cardinals jumped right back into conference play today against the nation's No. 1 team, the Hobart Statesmen. The gauntlet continued, and while Plattsburgh fought hard, the Statesmen earned a 3–0 home victory in Geneva.

Plattsburgh looked to reset quickly as they resumed SUNYAC play, but Hobart asserted control when it mattered. The first period ended scoreless, but in the second, Hobart broke through around the seven-minute mark when Chris Duclair scored with assists from Tamas Toth and Tommy McDonough.

In the third period, Hobart added two more tallies. Kahlil Fontana scored on a strong attack midway through the period, and Easton Ryan sealed the result with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Despite the loss, Plattsburgh displayed fight and flashes of pushback. They managed 22 shots on goal, while Hobart logged 43. First-year goaltender Beau Lane (Pembroke, Mass.) stopped 40 shots, keeping his team in the game.

On the faceoff dot, the Cardinals were nearly even, winning 31 draws to Hobart's 30. Penalty-wise, Plattsburgh had several power-play opportunities and gave Hobart multiple chances, none of which were converted, but Hobart extended its lead at even strength.

The result drops Plattsburgh to 2-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in SUNYAC play. The Cardinals now shift focus to their next SUNYAC matchup against Morrisville at home on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
