PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After trailing by two with a little over a minute left in the game, the Plattsburgh State women's basketball team couldn't generate any offense and only scored two points the rest of the way ultimately dropping a close State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game to Potsdam 55-49. Jaden Wilson (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown) paced the Cardinals with 13 points to go with five rebounds.

Imani Walcott (Albany. N.Y. / Albany) recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Julia Greek (Long Island, N.Y. / Ward Melville) had a solid performance in the overall effort with seven points, three steals, two assists, and two rebounds.
Payton Couture (Redford, N.Y. / Saranac) and
Kathy Peterson-Ross (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest) both contributed six points while Couture had three rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block, and Peterson-Ross had four rebounds and a steal.
For the Bears, Jenna Cotter led the team in scoring with a game-high 17 to go with 15 rebounds for a double-double. Barbara Bruno was also in double figures with 15 points.
Plattsburgh only shot 30.0% from the field, 25.9% from the three, and while the Cardinals shot 80.0% from the free throw line, they only took five shots compared to Potsdam's 21. Potsdam shot a solid 37.0% from the field, 22.2% from the three, and 61.9% from the free throw line. Potsdam controlled the boards, outrebounding the Cardinals 43-36 but the Cardinals took advantage of their offensive rebounds recording 16 second-chance points to Potsdam's 10. While Plattsburgh recorded fewer turnovers, Potsdam capitalized on those turnovers, recording 19 points off turnovers while the Cardinals only had six.
Plattsburgh State falls to 10-7 (6-4 SUNYAC) and is back in action on Friday, Jan. 31 when the team welcomes Cortland for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. Potsdam moves to 7-10 (3-7 SUNYAC) and is back in action on Friday, Jan. 31 when they welcome Morrisville for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
The first quarter started with back-and-forth play until a 5-0 run from Potsdam gave the Bears a 9-4 lead at the 4:52 mark. Three-pointers from Wilson and Peterson-Ross brought the Cardinals within one, but Potsdam pushed their lead to 13-10 after two free throws from Bruno at the 2:27 mark. After a three-pointer from
Selma Deisz (Bekkestua, Norway / Nadderud VGS) tied the game at 15, Greek nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer and gave Plattsburgh an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter didn't see a made basket until the 6:27 mark when Bruno knocked down a jumper followed by a 5-0 burst from Plattsburgh that made the score 23-17 Cardinals at the 5:17 mark. Both teams exchanged layups to end the second quarter and Plattsburgh went into halftime with a 25-21 lead.
Potsdam opened the third quarter with back-to-back baskets, but Plattsburgh responded with an 8-0 run and extended their lead to 33-28 at the 5:32 mark. The Bears countered the Cardinals' run with a 5-0 burst and made the score 33-30 before a three-pointer from Peterson-Ross pushed the Cardinals' lead to six. Potsdam continued to respond and ended the third quarter with a three at the buzzer and cut Plattsburgh's lead to 38-36.
The Cardinals controlled the game until Potsdam went on a 6-0 run and took a 47-45 lead at the 1:47 mark. Two free throws from Greek tied the game at 47 but five straight points from Potsdam extended their lead to 52-47. The Cardinals gained some momentum after a layup from Walcott brought them within three but after DaeLynn Alcock made a free throw and pushed the score to 53-49 the Cardinals couldn't generate any offense and ultimately fell 55-49.
