2024-25 Plattsburgh State Men's Ice Hockey Schedule
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team will look to earn their 25
th State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship in program history when it embarks on a 25-game regular-season schedule in 2024-25, as announced Monday by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.
The Cardinals went 21-5-2 overall (12-3-1 SUNYAC) under the direction of fifth-year head coach
Steve Moffat in 2023-24, as they concluded their season by falling in the SUNYAC Championship game.
Plattsburgh State tunes up for the regular season with an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 26, heading to Skidmore for a matchup with a future conference opponent. The team will then open their season with a trip to Vermont State University Castleton, taking on the Spartans on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The Cards next head to Plymouth, New Hampshire for a strong road test on Friday, Nov. 8 against the reigning Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Champions in Plymouth State. The Cards open their home slate the following day, Nov. 9, with an exhibition game against Simon Fraser University at 7 p.m.
SUNYAC play begins for the Cards on the road as they head to Oswego State on Nov. 15 to open conference action against their long-time rivals on a Friday night. The following day, Plattsburgh travels to Canton, which joins the SUNYAC in 2024-25, with a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Cardinals next welcome Cortland to the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena for their regular season and conference home opener in a 2024 SUNYAC Championship rematch set for Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Plattsburgh State then takes on Morrisville on Saturday, Nov. 23 for another league matchup.
The Cards finish 2024 on the road, heading to Middlebury on Black Friday, Nov. 29, for the LayerEight Shootout, taking on Norwich in the opening game, and then will face either Middlebury or Marian the following day. The two lone December games for Plattsburgh occur on the road as they will face Fredonia on Friday, Dec. 6, and then Buffalo State on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Cardinals ring in the New Year as they host Keene State on Friday, Jan. 3, before they head to Wesleyan on Saturday, Jan. 4 for a non-conference road matchup. Plattsburgh State then hosts the Comfort Inn Complex Winter Classic, where Wilkes and the University of New England open the tournament at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, followed by Plattsburgh taking on Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7:30 p.m. The consolation and championship games occur at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively, the following day on Sunday, Jan. 12.
The Cards open up a string of five home games in their next six contests, hosting Middlebury on Friday, Jan. 17, and then Williams on Saturday, Jan. 18, each at 7 p.m. Potsdam makes the short trip to the Stafford Ice Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 22 for a league game before the Cardinals play their final non-conference game against Amherst on Saturday, Jan. 25 on the road. Canton comes to Plattsburgh on Friday, Jan. 31 for the team's next league matchup before the Cardinals take on Oswego State in one of the biggest matchups of the season on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 7 will see Plattsburgh head to Morrisville and then Saturday, Feb. 8, the Cardinals will take on Cortland at 5 p.m. in another road SUNYAC matchup. The Cards' final regular season home games take place on the weekend of Valentine's Day, as they host Buffalo State on the holiday, with a 7 p.m. matchup. Fredonia concludes the Cardinal's home schedule the following day with a 7 p.m. Saturday matchup, with Plattsburgh then finishing the regular season on the road against Potsdam, on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
The top six teams in the final regular-season conference standings will qualify for the SUNYAC Tournament, with the first round set for Feb. 26, the semifinals set for March 1 and the championship set for March 8. The top two seeds earn byes to the semifinals, while the bottom four seeds begin the tournament in the first round on Feb. 26.
New season ticket holder sales will begin on Monday, August 12.
