Game One: Plattsburgh 4, Brockport 0
Behind Golino's strong effort, the Cards picked up their second SUNYAC win of the year, as the graduate student celebrated her senior day by going the distance. She went all seven innings, allowed just three hits, and struck out one for her third win of the year and fourth complete game.
Smith had the biggest hit of the day on offense, with a two-run double that sealed the win, while
Gwen Noll (Massapequa, N.Y./St, Anthony's) had a hit, an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.
Megan Pillus (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored while Garguilo scored twice and had a base hit.
The first three and a half innings flew by as the score was 0-0 heading into the fourth, with only two hits total between the two teams. Finally, in the fourth, the Cards got on the board, as Noll started the inning with an infield hit and then stole second. With two outs, Mouhteros singled up the middle, bringing home Noll and giving Plattsburgh the lead.
After the Golden Eagles picked up their first hit of the game in the fifth, Plattsburgh added another run in the bottom half, as Noll drove home Garguilo with a sacrifice fly after Garguilo reached on an error. A 1-2-3 sixth from Golino put the Cards at the plate quickly, where after two outs, three straight hits capped by Smith's two-run double put the Cards up 4-0.
In the seventh, after an infield hit to start the frame, a single to center threatened to put runners on the corners, but an excellent relay nabbed the runner at third for the first out of the inning. Golino then induced back-to-back flyouts, ending the game and giving Plattsburgh the win.
Fiona Gibiser took the loss for Brockport, going six innings and allowing three earned runs.
Game Two: Plattsburgh 6, Brockport 1
Ormerod's outing in game two helped lead the Cards to the win, as she went seven innings for the fifth straight game, struck out six batters, and allowed just three hits and one run. The sophomore also collected her 100
th career strikeout during the game.
Golino was 3-3 in the game-two win, also drawing a walk and bringing in a run with an RBI double, while
Sara Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was 2-4 with two RBI and a double. Noll finished 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Manalo was 2-2 with an RBI, run scored, and walk.
The Cards got started early in game two, posting a run in the first on a Golino RBI double and then another on an RBI single from Manalo in the second.
Olivia Simone doubled home the first run of the day for Brockport in the third and that's where the score stood until the bottom of the sixth as Ormerod and Brockport reliever Kendall Phillips threw up three consecutive innings of zeroes each.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Cards finally pulled away, however, as the team loaded the bases after a Garguilo infield hit and walks to Manalo and Palmer. Noll followed with a single up the middle to score two runs and then Isaacs smoked a double to left center, putting Plattsburgh State up 6-1.
In the seventh, leading by five, Ormerod retired the Golden Eagle bats in order, giving the Cards the doubleheader and Senior Day sweep.
Hadley Alguire took the loss in the circle, giving up two runs while Simone had one of the three hits with her RBI double.
