PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After a low-scoring first half for the Cardinals with only three goals scored, the Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team was shut out in the second half and fell 18-3 to Oswego State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest.
Caitlin Nash (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford),
Erica Dickinson (Yaphank, N.Y. / Bellport), and
Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd) were the only Cardinals to register a point as they all scored one goal each. Sophomore defender
Lillian Gilroy picked up four ground balls and had two draw controls. Nash also registered two draw controls to go with two caused turnovers. Senior defender
Sam Lombardi (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) had two caused turnovers on the day while
Rachel LaMar (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) and
Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) grabbed two ground balls each.
For the Lakers, Sela Wiley led the team in points with eight off of six goals and two assists. Madison Davis was the next top contributor with three goals and an assist for four points.
The Lakers had the advantage in shots 32-9 and had the edge in ground balls 22-17. The Lakers won the draw control battle 15-8. The Cardinals were a perfect 2-2 on free-position shots while the Lakers were 5-10. On clears the Cardinals were 15-25 and the Lakers a perfect 22-22.
Plattsburgh moves to 3-11 overall (2-6 SUNYAC) and travels to Potsdam on Wednesday, Apr 24 for their final game of the regular season with the first draw control in the air at 4 pm. Oswego State moves to 10-5 overall (6-2 SUNYAC) and next hosts Cortland on Wednesday, Apr 24 with the first draw control in the air at 4 pm.
The Cardinals struck first at the 13:47 mark with an unassisted goal from Barnosky. Isabella Lembo responded minutes later with a goal that tied the game at 1 and started a four-goal run for the Lakers that made the score 4-1 Lakers at the end of the first quarter.
Not even a minute into the quarter Nash tacked on a goal for the Cardinals at the 14:24 mark followed by a goal from Davis at the 13:36 mark that made the score 5-2 Lakers. A few minutes later Dickinson put one in the back of the net for the Cardinals and scored their last goal of the game. Wiley led a four-goal run with two goals as the Lakers went into halftime up 9-3.
The Lakers tacked on four more goals in the third while the Cardinals were held scoreless with only one shot in the quarter. The Lakers extended their lead to 13-3 at the end of the third. The fourth quarter saw the Lakers outscore the Cardinals 5-0. The Cardinals only had two shots in the fourth and ultimately fell 18-3.

Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, Calif. / El Toro) had nine saves in the loss for Plattsburgh. Junior goalie Sarah Kamide had five saves in the win for Oswego State.
