Men's Lacrosse Hangs Tough in 12-6 Setback Against Oswego State

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After trailing by two goals heading into the fourth quarter, the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team was outscored 5-1 and fell 12-6 to Oswego State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup. Senior attacker John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) scored two goals to lead the Cardinals.

Cam Morin (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) recorded one goal and one assist. Dylan Irvine (Ogdensburgh, N.Y. / Ogdensburgh Free Academy), Logan Jones (Bayport, N.Y. / Bayport-Blue Point), and Anthony Faber (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) all posted one goal each. Senior attacker Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) led the Cardinals with two assists while sophomore attacker Lucas Longhitano (Lake George, N.Y. / Queensbury) also picked up an assist. Junior midfielder Jimbo Farrelly (West Nyack, N.Y. / Clarkstown-South) picked up eight faceoff wins and four ground balls. First-year defender Fynn Whitlock (Middlebury, Vt. / Middlebury Union) had three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

For the Lakers, Corey O'Connor and Emmett Starowizc both had five points as O'Connor recorded five goals and Starowizc two goals and three assists.

The Cardinals outshot the Lakers 52-41 and had the edge in ground balls 32-28. The Lakers had a slight advantage in faceoff wins 12-10. On extra man-up opportunities, the Cardinals were 1-5 while the Lakers were 3-7. The Cardinals were perfect on clears going 20-20 while the Lakers were 24-30.

Plattsburgh moves to 4-8 overall (0-3 SUNYAC) and next hosts New Paltz on Tuesday, Apr 16 with the opening faceoff dropping at 4 pm. Oswego State moves to 8-3 overall (4-0 SUNYAC) and next travels to Nazareth on Wednesday, Apr 17 with the opening faceoff dropping at 3 pm.

The first didn't see much action as Hayden Coney of the Lakers scored the only goal at the 3:25 mark. The Cardinals had 10 shots in the quarter, but none found the back of the net.

Irvine opened the second with a goal at the 8:29 mark off the pass of Longhitano and tied the game. The Lakers responded with back-to-back goals at the 5:49 and 4:36 mark. Woods found Morin for a goal at the 3:20 mark as the Cardinals went into halftime down 3-2.

The Lakers opened the third with a four-goal run followed by a three-goal run from the Cardinals that ended the third with two goals from Eiseman and one from Jones as he scored a goal late in the third and made the score 7-5 Lakers after three-quarters of play.

Sexton opened the fourth with a goal at the 12:27 mark while the Cardinals didn't get on the board until the 8:56 mark when Morin found Faber who put one past the goalie and made the score 8-6 Lakers. Faber scored the Cardinals' only goal of the quarter as the Lakers ended the fourth with four straight goals and the Cardinals fell 12-6.

Senior goalie Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y. / Putnam Valley) recorded eight saves in the loss for Plattsburgh. Sophomore goalie Seamus Hand recorded 16 saves in the win for Oswego State.
