CANTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team fell on the road to Canton in a non-conference matchup. After going into halftime down 6-2 the Cardinals were outscored by the Kangaroos 11-3 in the second half and ultimately fell 17-5.
Janey Adams (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) led the Cardinals in points with two goals.
Maddy Garcia (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz),
Erica Dickinson (Yaphank, N.Y. / Bellport), and
Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd) all scored one goal each for the Cardinals.
Fiona Fitzgerald (Long Beach, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) and
Nicole Resnick (Latham, N.Y. / Shaker) both posted an assist each.
For the Kangaroos, Maddy Caron led the team in goals with eight. Lindsey Wunder posted seven points with four goals and three assists.
The Kangaroos dominated the shot battle 36-13 with 24 of those shots being on goal while the Cardinals had nine shots on goal. Both teams were 2-3 on extra man-up opportunities. The Cardinals collected 12 ground balls while the Kangaroos collected 21. The Kangaroos doubled the Cardinals' draw control wins 16-8. On free-position shots, the Cardinals were 2-4 while the Kangaroos were 3-4.
Plattsburgh moves to 1-1 with the loss and next hosts Clarkson on Thursday, March 7 at 4 pm. Canton moves to 1-0 with the win and next travels to Oswego St. on Tuesday, March 5 at 4 pm.
The Kangaroos held the Cardinals scoreless in the first quarter as they posted the only two goals of the quarter. Caron opened the scoring with back-to-back unassisted goals at the 14:21 mark and 11:23 mark. Neither team scored the rest of the quarter as the Kangaroos took a 2-0 lead into the second.
The Kangaroos continued their scoring as Wunder posted back-to-back goals five minutes into the quarter. The Cardinals didn't score until nearly halfway through the quarter when Barnosky scored an unassisted goal that got them on the board and made the score 4-1 Kangaroos. Sydney Dunn cashed in on an extra man-up opportunity followed by a Caroline Nappi goal that extended the Kangaroos' lead. Garcia responded with a goal for the Cardinals off a Fitzgerald pass as they too took advantage of an extra man-up opportunity and scored the last goal of the quarter at the 1:32 mark and went into halftime down 6-2.
The Kangaroos went on a seven-goal run from the 13:23 mark until the 1:27 mark when Adams broke up the run with an unassisted goal that made the score 13-3 Kangaroos. It was Adams again as she scored the last goal of the third quarter with 10 seconds remaining off a Resnick pass that made the score 13-4 Kangaroos after three-quarters of play.
Caron opened the fourth with back-to-back goals both assisted by Morgan Montgomery as the Kangaroos extended their lead to double digits. Dickinson scored the Cardinals' last goal with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter that made the score 15-5 Kangaroos. Caron tacked on two more goals to end the fourth as the Cardinals fell 17-5.

Hannah Lowder (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) made six saves in the loss for Plattsburgh while senior goalie Olivia Scott made three saves in the win for Canton.
