OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball game fell in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 3-0 match against Oswego State.

Liya Girma (Sachse, Texas/Bishop Lynch) led the offensive attack with 11 kills for 11 points, both game-highs, hitting .207 over the three sets of action. Anabella Almeida (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) contributed 12 assists, while Kyleigh Ganz (Phoenix, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) had nine assists, three service aces, and three digs. Bridget Ryan (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) had 12 digs on the defensive end for Plattsburgh, also adding one assist and one service ace.

Kalley Vugteveen led Oswego State with 10 points, as she had five kills, three service aces, and two solo blocks. Madison Gordon had nine points, thanks mostly to six service aces, while Priscilla McReynolds had a team-best seven kills and eight digs.

The statistics across the board were nearly even for both teams, with Oswego holding small margins in many categories. However, the team had 15 service aces to the Cardinal's nine and committed 15 fewer errors en route to the win.

Plattsburgh State falls to 3-17 (0-6 SUNYAC) and next travels to Potsdam on Wednesday, Oct. 23 for a 6 p.m. conference match. Oswego State improves to 12-10 (3-2 SUNYAC) and will next take on Oneonta on Friday, Oct. 25.

The first set began with seven straight Oswego State points, as three service access in the final four points of the stretch from Gordon powered the Lakers to the early lead. The Cardinals were able to respond with four straight t points themselves, but a 4-0 run from Oswego put their lead back at seven with an 11-4 lead. After twice pulling to within four points, a four-point swing for the Lakers pushed their lead to 19-9 as they cruised to a 25-16 first-set win.

In the second set, the Cardinals were able to push to a 7-3 lead early after picking up four straight points and later extended their lead to 13-5 as Ganz had a kill and three straight service aces. After moving the score to 14-8 in favor of Plattsburgh, Oswego scored eight straight points to take a 16-14 lead. Despite the momentum swing, the Cardinals still battled, pulling to within one point, down 21-20, after a Girma kill. However, the Lakers rattled off four straight points, winning the set 25-20.

The third and final set saw the Cardinals jump out to multiple four-point leads, as they led the Lakers 14-10 after an Iris Mulvey (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) kill. Once again, Oswego was able to pull off a huge run, however, scoring seven straight points to go up 17-14. The Cards got to within two points late in the set once more, trailing 21-19, but four straight points from Gordon sealed the win as she helped the Lakers earn the win with two service aces to end the match.
