BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State softball team wrapped up its 2023 regular season with a sound sweep over the Brockport Golden Eagles, picking up two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) wins. The Cards now will look towards the SUNYAC Tournament, in which they will match up with Cortland as the five seed.
Kristen Langdon (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished the day with five hits, as she approaches the 100 career-hit mark with 93 now in her three-season career. Claire Palmer (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) served up three hits on the day, moving her season-hit total to 57 in just 32 games, with her mark tying for third place all-time for hits in a single season. Only Jennifer Groat (569 in 2018) and Jennifer Nescio (65 in 2007) have had more hits in a single season than Palmer does this year. Michelle Gonzales (Grass Valley, Calif./Nevada Union) also clobbered her third homer of the year to tie for the team lead.

Maggiacomo's effort in the circle was exactly what Plattsburgh needed to start the day, as she stymied the Golden Eagle bats through seven innings of work. The senior went all seven innings, allowing just six hits and two runs, while walking none and striking out six. Offensively, Julia Golino (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) had two hits on the day and drove in three runs while Langdon also added two hits.
Plattsburgh got all of the offense they would need in a five-run second inning, as they had three hits and took advantage of three Brockport errors in the frame. With bases loaded and on out for Plattsburgh, two runs came around to score on a fielder's choice, as an error by the Brockport catcher allowed the two runners to score. Palmer followed with a grounder that was misplayed but would score a run nonetheless, as she reached on an error and picked up an RBI. After a Langdon infield hit, Golino singled to left, driving in two runs, putting the Cards up 5-0.
With the five-run cushion, Maggiacomo was able to cruise through the rest of the game, with a two-run homer from Annie Dipirro in the fourth being the only blemish to her line. Golino later added another run for Plattsburgh, as she singled home Palmer in the top of the sixth to put the Cardinals up 6-2. Maggiacomo worked around a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to finish the game for Plattsburgh, picking up her ninth win of the 2023 season.
Fiona Gibiser was charged with her 13th loss of the season, Amanda Blakely had two hits and a run and Dipirro homered for the Golden Eagles.
Game Two: Plattsburgh 12, Brockport 2

After a solo homer from Hailey Burdick in the fifth, Plattsburgh once again scored three runs in an inning, as an error plated a run, Langdon singled in a runner, and Maggiacomo brought home Palmer with a sac fly to put the team up 9-2.
Plattsburgh put the game well out of reach with another three-run frame in the seventh, as Gonzales smacked a two-run shot to put the team up 11-2. The final run of the game came home to score on a Langdon single to right-center that scored Manalo. In the bottom of the frame, Ormerod worked around two hits and struck out two batters to clinch the win for the Cards in their regular season finale.
