BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team held even with SUNY Brockport in the second half but wound up falling, 12-7, to the Golden Eagles in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the New Turf Field.
Despite the loss, the Cardinals held the upper hand in shots (40-36) and went 19-for-25 on clears. The Golden Eagles were 14-for-21 on face-offs and owned a 19-17 advantage in ground balls in addition to going 1-for-3 on extra-man opportunities and 25-for-30 on clear attempts.
Plattsburgh State falls to 2-11 overall (0-5 SUNYAC) with the loss and next hosts SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday, April 26, at 4 p.m. Brockport rises to 4-8 overall (2-3 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, April 26, at 7 p.m.
Brockport scored the first goal of the game 3:58 into the contest, as senior midfielder Jhovanny Olivares scored unassisted, while junior midfielder Blake Palozzi scored man-down midway through the opening quarter to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. Junior attackman
John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) scored unassisted 1:06 later to put the Cardinals on the board, while sophomore midfielder Nate Askin netted a pair of goals to give Brockport a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes of play.
The Golden Eagles scored three unanswered goals to kick off the second quarter before senior midfielder
Gustav Rugg (Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) netted a marker on an assist from sophomore attackman
Mike Walsh (Westchester, N.Y./Lakeland) and Walsh fired in an unassisted strike with 3:54 remaining in the second to pull the Cardinals within four. Brockport's junior attackman Carson Colucci cashed in on a feed from Olivares to hand the home team an 8-3 advantage at the intermission.
Senior midfielder
Michael Swift (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) fired the opening salvo in the second half before Brockport's junior attackman Ben Hay (sophomore attackman Jesse Wooley assist) answered midway through the third quarter. The Golden Eagles owned a 9-4 cushion through three quarters of action.

Cam Morin (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) with 1:43 remaining and Morin scored unassisted with 10 seconds to go.
Walsh led the Cardinal offense with three points on two goals and an assist, while junior goalie
Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) scooped up four ground balls.
For Brockport, Hay and Askin each netted three goals, while senior goalie Cameron Kuzniar caused three turnovers and collected four ground balls.
Clements made eight saves in the loss for the Cardinals, while Kuzniar stopped 11 shots in the win for the Golden Eagles.
