PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State baseball team fell in non-conference home action to Clarkson on Tuesday afternoon, losing to the Golden Knights 23-6. Clarkson registered 25 hits and scored in every inning except for the eighth to earn the win.
For Plattsburgh, Christian Ott (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) registered three hits and drove in two runs while Andrew Veit(Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) and Matt Blair (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) had two hits and Veit drove in a run. Logan Avin (Honolulu, Hawaii/Waterford(Conn.)) pitched two innings of relief, giving up one unearned run while striking out three.
For Plattsburgh, Anthony Mosca (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) made his collegiate debut on the mound, registering two outs of work and picking up his first career strikeout. Brayden Trombley (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) registered his first college at-bat and picked up his first career double, as the first-year hit a line drive down the right-field line for his first career hit.
Plattsburgh moves to 6-14 and will prepare for a huge conference series against New Paltz this weekend, as both teams look to stay in the league's playoff race with the first game occurring on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m. Clarkson also moves to 6-14 with the win and will next play a doubleheader at Bard College in a league matchup on April 15.
Clarkson got off to a fast start to begin the game as Colby Brouillette hit a two-homer to centerfield to give the Golden Knights an early two-run lead. They kept the offense rolling with three runs in the second and third to take an 8-0 lead. Plattsburgh responded with a five-run bottom of the third, capped by run-scoring singles Ott and Veit.
Trailing by three runs, the Cards couldn't keep it close with the Golden Knights, as they added four runs in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth for 20 runs through six frames. Ott drove in a run in the fifth, making the score 20-6 after six full innings. Clarkson added three more runs, one in the seventh and two in the ninth, to go up to 23-6 for the final.
For Clarkson, Colby Brouillette was 4-6 with two homers and five RBI and Cam Jerrett was 4-6 with two doubles and six RBI. Derrick Lewis earned the win for the Golden Knights, throwing three innings giving up just one run, and striking out two.
