PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to come from behind in an 11-9 non-conference win over SUNY Canton in its home opener on Saturday morning at the Field House Complex.

Kate Kennedy (Waddington, N.Y./Massena) put the Cardinals ahead with a score with 6:16 remaining before Guzzetta added an important insurance marker with 45 seconds left to seal the victory for Plattsburgh State.

Plattsburgh State rises to 3-1 overall with the win and next hosts Union College on Saturday, March 18, at 4 p.m. Canton falls to 0-3 overall with the loss and next visits Arcadia University on Thursday, March 16, at 4 p.m.
Guzzetta put the Cardinals on the board 24 seconds into the game on a feed from first-year attacker
Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd), but Canton's senior attacker Casey Pelton tallied 1:09 later to tie the score at 1-all. Guzzetta scored woman-up midway through the quarter to give the home team a 2-1 lead, and Barnosky added to the lead with 6:09 remaining in the first. Sophomore midfielder Maddy Caron found the back of the cage for the Kangaroos before Barnosky buried her second of the game with 2:07 left in the opening stanza. Senior midfielder Samantha Dayter scored for Canton with three seconds left in the first to draw the visitors within one at 4-3.
Canton tied the game with 8:21 to go in the second quarter, as junior attacker Morgan Montgomery scored on a pass from sophomore midfielder Aayliah White, before Dayter put Canton on top with 5:07 left before the half. McLaughlin scored woman-up with 1:40 to go to tie the score at 5-all heading into the intermission.
Pelton put the Kangaroos back up, 6-5, with a woman-up goal 13 seconds into the third quarter before senior midfielder
Caroline Noia (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) cashed in on a feed from McLaughlin with 10:22 remaining in the third and Guzzetta tallied unassisted to help the Cardinals regain the lead. Canton then went on a three-goal surge, with Dayter, Caron and first-year attacker Caroline Nappi all scoring to hand the Kangaroos a 9-7 cushion.
Plattsburgh State held a 30-26 edge in shots and a 28-22 advantage in ground balls, while Canton won the draw control battle, 17-7. On clears, the Cardinals were 20-for-25, while the Kangaroos were 20-for-26.
Guzzetta led the Cardinals with five goals, four ground balls and four draw controls, while McLaughlin had two goals and an assist to go along with four caused turnovers.
For Canton, Dayter finished with three goals and 10 draw controls.
Malone made 12 saves in the win for the Cardinals, while senior goalie Olivia Scott turned aside 13 shots in the loss for the Kangaroos.
