No. 3 Women's Ice Hockey Plays to a 2-2 Tie with No. 13 Norwich

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 3 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team tied the No. 13 Norwich Cadets on Tuesday evening, as the teams played to a 2-2 stalemate after 60 minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime. Bridget Orr (Excelsior, Minn./ North American Hockey Academy) scored both goals for the Cardinals, as she scored twice in a game for the second straight contest.

Plattsburgh State is currently ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com Division III Top-15 Poll.

Orr scored both of the Cardinal goals while Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass./Norwich University) assisted on both scores. Maeghan Forsyth (Billings, Mont./Notre Dame Hounds) also tallied an assist for Plattsburgh State, while Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) stood tall in net making 16 saves over 65 minutes of action in goal.

Overall the Cardinals won the shot battle 40-18, while Plattsburgh was the only team to earn power play opportunities, going 0-4.

The Cards move to 3-0-1 on the year and continue their conference schedule on Friday, Nov. 17, when they take on SUNY Potsdam in road-league action. Norwich moves to 3-2-1 and next hosts Plymouth State in conference play on Friday, Nov. 17.

The first period saw little action between the two teams with only nine shots from the Cards and four from the Cadets as the teams went into the first intermission tied at zero.

The second period of play was much more eventful, as Taylor Giroud opened the game's scoring just over a minute into the period, putting Norwich up 1-0.

The Cardinals were able to ramp up the offensive attack during the second stanza, outshooting Norwich 16-5. It eventually resulted in goals for the home team, as they first tied the game at the one just over seven minutes into the period. Orr notched the score off a Masotta helper, as the graduate student skated around the entire Norwich defense, eventually making her way behind the goalie line. From there she passed back to Orr, who spun herself free just in front of the goalie crease, freeing herself for the one-timer past the glove of the goalie.

Orr gave her team the lead just before the end of the period, at the 18:06 mark after Urban played the puck up the ice into the offensive zone. Masotta took the puck all the way to net, attempting a shot that was saved by the Norwich goaltender, and the rebound found its way to Orr who shoveled the puck into the goal. With her second goal of the game, it marks two straight contests with multiple goals for Orr.

At the outset of the third period, Norwich came out firing and eventually tallied the game-tying score as Livia Brooks scored off assists from Madison Anderson and Taylor Girouard. The score would hold through the rest of the game and overtime despite Plattsburgh putting 15 shots on goal to Norwich's nine, resulting in the 2-2 tie.

Leocadia Clark played all 65 minutes for Norwich, making 38 saves to earn the tie.
