Women's Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Defending SUNYAC Champion Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-11) State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) decision to defending conference champion SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Corey Gymnasium.
 
Cortland hit .297 for the match while holding a 15-2 edge in service aces, an 8-2 margin in blocks and a 26-23 cushion in digs.
 
Plattsburgh State falls to 4-7 overall (0-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next hosts SUNY Oneonta on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. The match will also serve as the women's volleyball's program's celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX. Cortland rises to 9-3 overall (3-0 SUNYAC) with the win and next hosts Fredonia on Friday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m.
 
First-year setter/right side Kyleigh Ganz (Phoenix, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) led the Cardinals with four kills and five assists, while graduate student middle hitter Alicia Fisher (Brooklyn, N.Y./Science Skills) floored three kills and had two total blocks (one solo, one assist). Junior setter Emma Rivers (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown West) distributed six assists, while junior defensive specialist/libero Shannon Fitzpatrick (Westtown, N.Y./Rhinebeck) defended a team-high five digs.
 
For Cortland, sophomore middle hitter Alexa Guedez and graduate student right side Zoe Staats each had seven kills, while senior setter Meadow Wittmann doled out 15 assists. Senior setter Megan McMahon and senior libero Carly Haegele each served up four aces, while first-year middle hitter Emma Reilly tallied five total blocks (three solo, two assist) and Haegele recorded eight digs.
