Women's Soccer Falls on the Road to New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY - The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team lost on the road to SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday evening, as they endured their first SUNYAC loss of the 2022 campaign. Senior Nicole Kingsley (Lake George, NY/ Lake George) recorded the team's lone goal in the Cardinal loss.

The loss brings Plattsburgh to 4-2-1 (0-1-1) on the year, while New Paltz improves to 5-1-1 (2-0-0). The Hawks now sit atop the women's soccer standings with six points, having defeated both Plattsburgh and Brockport.

Kingsley was able to land the first blow in the evening matchup at the 27th minute, as five minutes after entering the game, the senior got control of an Allison Seidman (Commack, NY/Commack) pass that was headed over the New Paltz defense. The senior was able to beat the Hawks' goalkeeper to the ball and slot the shot into the goal for the first score of her collegiate career.

Six minutes later, however, the Hawks tied the score up with a goal of their own, which made the score 1-1 heading into halftime.

In the second half, New Paltz began a more aggressive attack, outshooting the Cards 12-4 in the period. The Hawks got the game-winning goal in the 59th minute, as Brooke Kelleher recorded the score. After the tie was broken, Plattsburgh got four looks at the goal but was unable to score. Over the final 25 plus minutes, New Paltz held the Cardinals shotless, as they took home a 2-1 win.

Plattsburgh was outshot 19-11 in the 90 minutes of game action, as the Hawks were able to turn up their offensive intensity in the second half, recording 12 shots to the Cardinals four. They also were awarded eight more corners overall, with the Hawks taking six in the second half to the Cards zero.

Julia Ennis (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) took the loss in goal as she recorded five saves in the match. Her record now stands at 2-2 on the season.

The ladies will return home for a matchup with Geneseo, as last year's top two finishers in the standings face off in a big SUNYAC matchup.
