PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Eight unanswered goals across the first, second and third quarters helped lift the Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory over Fredonia in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex.
Junior midfielder
Lindsay Guzzetta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and senior attacker
Emily Caoili (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) paced the Cardinals with four points each, with Guzzetta recording two goals and two assists and Caoili registering a goal and three assists. Junior midfielder
Caroline Noia (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) netted three goals, while junior defender/midfielder
Emma McLaughlin (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and senior midfielder
Davina Gyedu (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) both scored twice. Sophomore midfielder
Jordan Kowalski (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) tallied six draw controls and three caused turnovers, while sophomore defender
Janey Adams (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park) scooped up six ground balls.
The Cardinals outshot the Blue Devils by a 41-19 margin and also held the upper hand in ground balls (28-15) and draw controls (14-10). On clears, Plattsburgh State was 18-for-22, while Fredonia was 16-for-26.
Plattsburgh State rises to 3-4 overall (1-1 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits Buffalo State on Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. Fredonia falls to 0-7 overall (0-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Brockport on Tuesday, April 5, at 4 p.m.
Sophomore attacker/midfielder
Fiona Fitzgerald (Long Beach, N.Y./Holy Trinity) opened scoring just 16 seconds into the contest on a pass from Guzzetta, while Fredonia's junior midfielder Molly McGowan leveled the score at 1-all with a goal 3:53 later. After a goal by Gyedu, McGowan and junior attacker Erin Woods each scored woman-up for the Blue Devils to hand the visitors a 3-2 lead. Junior attacker/midfielder
Kate Kennedy (Waddington, N.Y./Massena) buried a woman-down goal 23 seconds later, which started an eight-goal tear for Plattsburgh State. Caoili and Guzzetta (Caoili assist) each scored down the stretch in the first quarter to hand Plattsburgh State a 5-3 advantage through 15 minutes of play.

Caitlin Nash (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) each scored in the second quarter while the Cardinals held the Blue Devils scoreless in the frame. Plattsburgh State entered the halftime intermission with a 9-3 cushion.
After Kowalski scored to open up the third quarter, Fredonia countered with goals from senior defender Tessa Brady and Woods, while Noia found the back of the cage with 3:35 to go in the stanza to push the Plattsburgh State edge to 11-5 heading into the final quarter.
Guzzetta capitalized on a feed from Kowalski to kick off the fourth quarter, while sophomore midfielder Sydney Buchko scored for the Blue Devils with 10:25 left in regulation. While McLaughlin scored on a pass from Caoili and Noia ripped a strike into the back of the cage, Fredonia's junior attacker Makaylla Farino netted the final tally with 50 seconds left on a pass from Woods.
Offensively, Fredonia was led by Woods (two goals, one assist) and McGowan (two goals). On defense, senior defender Kendall Shearn collected four ground balls and had three caused turnovers.

Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) made four saves in 22:39 of action, while sophomore goalie
Johanna Malone (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) also stopped four shots, doing so in 37:21 of play. For Fredonia, junior goalie Emily Carr turned aside 13 shots in the loss.
