NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field, falling to non-conference Norwich University, 12-10.
The Cadets outshot the Cardinals by a 46-39 margin and went 17-for-20 on clears. Plattsburgh State, which went 16-for-23 on clears, scored three goals on seven extra-man opportunities, while Norwich scored a goal on its lone chance with the extra-man advantage. The Cadets held a 34-27 edge in ground balls, while each team went 12-for-24 at the face-off dot.
Plattsburgh State falls to 1-1 overall with the loss and next hosts Skidmore College on Wednesday, March 9, at 3 p.m. Norwich rises to 2-0 overall with the win and next visits the Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m.

John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) cut the gap to 2-1 by scoring on a feed from junior midfielder
Robby Martin (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) with 10:03 left in the first quarter, but the Cadets countered with two unanswered goals to end the opening quarter. Jones scored unassisted, while senior attackman Payden Masaracchia cashed in on a pass from sophomore attackman Tyler Seidel with 58 seconds left to pin Norwich to a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes of play.
The second quarter was all Plattsburgh State, with the Cardinals outscoring the Cadets by a 3-0 margin in the frame. Junior midfielder
Owen Lorenzetti (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy) scored his first collegiate goal 3:09 into the second quarter on a pass from junior attackman
Michael Swift (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), while junior midfielder
Gustav Rugg (Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland) netted a man-up goal on a pass from first-year attackman
Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) less than two minutes later. Swift then buried a pass from senior midfielder
Andrew Braverman (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) midway through the quarter to tie the game at 5-all, which held through the stretch run of the second quarter.
Norwich scored the first four goals of the third quarter. Haley scored man-up on a pass from Jones and tallied again off a feed from Seidel before Masaracchia (senior attackman Parker Campbell assist) and Campbell (Jones assist) each scored to extend the Cadet lead to 8-4 with 9:28 to go in the third. Zach Gill (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) for a goal before Gill had the assist on a man-up strike by senior midfielder
Stephen Kane (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) with 2:55 remaining in the quarter to whittle the deficit to 8-6. Campbell converted on a pass from graduate student midfielder Jack Anzalone right before the horn to put Norwich in front, 9-6, heading into the fourth quarter.
Campbell had two goals and an assist in a 3-0 run to start the fourth quarter, with Masaracchia providing the other goal during that surge. Martin scored his first goal as a Cardinal with 3:07 left in the game to help Plattsburgh State mount a rally to close the game. Kane scored on a Woods pass with 1:24 left, while senior midfielder
Billy Lombardi (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored his first collegiate goal man up 19 seconds later, relying on an assist from Gill. Braverman fed Lorenzetti for a goal with 30 seconds remaining to make it a two-goal game, and despite winning the ensuing face-off, Plattsburgh State was unable to complete the comeback.

For Norwich, Campbell had a six-point day with four goals and two assists—all of which came in the second half—while Jones notched four points on two goals and two assists. Campbell also caused six turnovers and scooped up three ground balls, while sophomore face-off specialist Thomas Muraski went 12-for-22 on face-offs and collected six ground balls.
