OSWEGO, N.Y. – Three Cardinals reached double figures in the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team's 103-61 loss to 17th-ranked and conference-leading Oswego State on Saturday afternoon at Max Ziel Gymnasium in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
First-year guard
Kevin Tabb (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson) led Plattsburgh State with 13 points, while first-year guard
Franklin Infante (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) and senior guard
Marlon Todd (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy for Young Men) netted 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Oswego's senior guard Julien Crittendon scored a game-high 18 points in 17 minutes coming off the bench, while sophomore guard Jeremiah Sparks and junior forward Jamal Achille poured in 13 and 11 points, respectively. In total, 16 different Lakers scored.
The Cardinals shot 36.2 percent (21-of-58) from the field and 92.9 percent (13-of-14) from the line, while the Lakers were 49.4 percent (39-of-79) from the floor and 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the charity stripe. Oswego held a 48-30 edge in rebounds and scored 29 points off 22 Plattsburgh State turnovers.
Plattsburgh State falls to 2-18 overall (1-12 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Oswego rises to 20-1 overall (14-0 SUNYAC) with the win and visits SUNY New Paltz next on Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
Senior forward
Kyle Cary (Selkirk, N.Y./Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) scored the first points of the game on a put-back layup, but Oswego countered with 11 unanswered points and did not end up trailing from that point forward. First-year guard
Darren Wright (Washington, D.C./Bard) hit a jumper and Tabb drained a 3-pointer to piece together a 5-0 Cardinal run late in the first half, but the Lakers ended up leading by as many as 31 points in the waning minutes of the stanza and took a 52-23 advantage into the locker room.
Oswego swelled its lead to 35 points with nearly eight minutes gone in the second half, but 3-pointers by Todd and senior guard/forward
Sheriff Conteh (Bronx, N.Y./Our Saviour Lutheran) contributed to a 6-0 Cardinal run. The Lakers countered with eight straight points and led by as many as 43 points down the stretch.
