PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team sustained a 104-73 setback to SUNY Brockport on Senior Day Saturday at Memorial Hall in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action. It marked the Cardinals' final home game of 2021-22.
Prior to the start of the game, Plattsburgh State honored guard
Marlon Todd (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy for Young Men), center
Cameron Ness (Clintondale, N.Y./Highland) and forward
Kyle Cary (Selkirk, N.Y./Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) as a part of Senior Day festivities.
First-year guard
Kevin Tabb (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson) matched his career high in points with 26, which he achieved off 9-of-22 shooting from the floor (including 4-of-9 shooting from 3-point range) and 4-of-5 shooting from the free-throw line. Junior forward
Erik Salo (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes coming off the bench, while first-year guard Frankin Infante (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) added 11 points.
Junior forward David Grady III led Brockport with 26 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, while first-year guard Colby Jordan registered 15 points in reserve duty. Junior guard Jahidi Wallace also reached double figures with 11 points.
Brockport shot 54.2 percent (39-of-72) from the field and 80.8 percent (21-of-26) from the line, while Plattsburgh State fashioned a 36.6 percent (26-of-71) shooting performance from the floor and went 15-of-19 (78.9 percent) at the charity stripe.
Plattsburgh State falls to 2-21 overall (1-15 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY New Paltz on Friday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. Brockport rises to 15-6 overall (10-5 SUNYAC) with the win and visits Fredonia on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
The Cardinals largely dictated the momentum of the game in the opening minutes. While Brockport tied the game at 13-all, Plattsburgh State took a six-point lead on a pair of 3-pointers by Tabb. After the Golden Eagles countered, Salo extended the advantage back out to six with a pair of free throws midway through the first half. Brockport then scored seven unanswered points to take a 22-21 lead, and after first-year guard
Matthew Kone-Bradshaw (Brooklyn, N.Y./Adams Street Academy) hit a jumper to put Plattsburgh State back on top, the Golden Eagles turned the tide with 13 unanswered points. Brockport never trailed from that point forward and took a 51-36 advantage into the locker rooms.
Plattsburgh State had kept the lead from going much higher than the halftime score for the first 10 minutes of the second half, scoring four unanswered points from sophomore guard/forward
Justin Blanchett (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) and Salo to pull within 13 at 71-58. Sixteen straight points from Brockport broke the game open, however, and the Golden Eagles led by as many as 33 points down the stretch.
