Bonfield one-timed the puck into the back of the net from the left post to hand Plattsburgh State the overtime victory.

Graduate defenseman Matt Araujo (Brookhaven, N.Y./Boston Jr. Rangers) put the Cardinals on the board at 4:04 of the first period. Senior forward Adam Tretowicz (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) took a shot that went wide from the bottom of the left circle, and Araujo took control of the puck on the right point. He skated into the high slot and took advantage of a screened goalie to net the first goal of the game. Senior forward Mitchell Hale (Oakfield, N.Y./Johnstown Tomahawks) also earned an assist on the play.

Just 1:33 later, junior forward Paul Bryer (Clarkston, Mich./Islanders Hockey Club) extended the lead to 2-0. Junior forward Trey Thomas (Williams Lake, British Columbia/Brooks Bandits) passed back to Weaver-Vitale on the left point, and Weaver-Vitale took a shot that got caught in traffic. Bryer collected the rebound and scored from the low slot.

Saint Michael's cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at 18:13 of the first. Junior forward Zach Taylor sent a pass from behind the goal line that deflected off a stick, but senior forward Jeremy Routh controlled the bouncing puck on the rebound. Routh then settled the puck and scored low glove side. Sophomore defenseman David Ciancio also was credited with an assist.

Just 2:49 into the second, junior forward Ryan Butler (Kelowna, British Columbia/Adrian College) pushed the Cardinal edge to 3-1. Senior defenseman Jacob Modry (Albany, N.Y./Merrimack College) stole the puck on the forecheck, and Butler passed down low to Tretowicz. While Tretowicz took a shot that the goaltender turned aside with a pad save, Butler crashed the net and banged in the rebound.
