Jenn Braun (Garrison, N.Y./Walter Panas) floored nine kills and hit .350 while junior outside hitter
Payton Zophy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) defended 14 digs, but the Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-14) State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall in its final home match of the season.
The Knights hit .256 for the match, including a .333 mark in the first set and a .323 hitting percentage in the third. Geneseo also held an 8-2 edge in service aces, an 11-2 cushion in blocks and a 45-43 margin in digs.
Beyond Braun and Zophy, first-year setter/right side
Kyleigh Ganz (Phoenix, Ariz./Seton Catholic Prep) recorded 12 assists, six digs, three kills, two service aces and two block assists.
For Geneseo, junior outside hitter Linda Rossi tallied nine kills, while first-year setter Carolyn Mack and sophomore setter/opposite Jenna Garvey paced the offense with 23 assists combined. Defensively, senior defensive specialist/libero Emily Haber registered 18 digs, while senior middle hitter Jackie Borland totaled six blocks (two solo, four assist).
Plattsburgh State falls to 4-13 overall (0-8 SUNYAC) with the loss and finishes SUNYAC play on Friday, Oct. 21, when it visits SUNY Potsdam for a 6 p.m. match. Geneseo rises to 9-9 overall (4-3 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits Buffalo State on Friday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m.
While Geneseo went up big early in the first set, a kill by Ganz, a Knight hitting error and a Braun termination pulled the Cardinals within 23-11. The Knights wound up winning the first set, 25-11.

Maggie Lyon (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) trimmed the deficit to 7-5. Geneseo answered with a 10-1 run and used that momentum to win the second, 25-12.
Plattsburgh State battled in the third, using a 4-1 run that included kills by junior setter
Emma Rivers (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown West) and graduate student right side
Kaitlyn Bjelko (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) to draw within 11-10. The Knights pulled ahead with a 7-0 surge and continued to cruise with a match-clinching 25-14 victory in the third.
