BROCKPORT, N.Y. – First-year guard Liam Ryan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill) scored a career-high 10 points in 16 minutes coming off the bench, but the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team fell to defending conference champion SUNY Brockport, 92-62, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym on Friday evening.

First-year guard Franklin Infante (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) was the Cardinals' leading scorer with 14 points, while first-year guard Kevin Tabb (Brooklyn, N.Y./Thomas Jefferson) chipped in 11. Junior forward Erik Salo (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) nearly posted a double-double with seven points and nine rebounds.

For Brockport, senior guard Antonio Alvarez had 18 points, while junior forward David Grady and sophomore forward Joseph Pena each netted 12, with Pena's total coming off the bench. First-year guard/forward Mekhi Beckett also reached double figures with 11 points.

The Golden Eagles shot 45.2 percent (33-of-73) from the field and 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the line, and they held a 57-45 edge in rebounds. The Cardinals shot 27.6 percent (21-of-76) from the floor.

Plattsburgh State falls to 2-15 overall (1-9 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 4 p.m. Brockport rises to 11-6 overall (6-5 SUNYAC) with the win and next hosts SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Brockport never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early 9-0 lead in the opening 1:07 of play. Senior guard Marlon Todd (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy for Young Men) and senior guard/forward Sheriff Conteh (Bronx, N.Y./Our Saviour Lutheran) each trimmed the gap to seven before a 13-4 Brockport run handed the home team a 28-12 advantage midway through the period. The Golden Eagles eventually ballooned the lead up to 30 points, and Pena hit a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left in the first half to hand Brockport a 54-24 halftime lead.

The Golden Eagles started the second half on a 20-3 run, but the Cardinals countered with nine unanswered points, with Tabb capping the surge with a 3-pointer. Brockport eventually got the lead back up to 43 points, but Plattsburgh State continued to compete, slowly whittling the deficit back to its margin at the half. A layup by senior forward Kyle Cary (Selkirk, N.Y./Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) with 11 seconds remaining provided the final score of 92-62.
