OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team kicked off its regular season and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) schedule in grand fashion, defeating Oswego State, 7-2, on Friday afternoon at the Romney Tennis Courts to hand head coach
Kelci Henn her first career victory.
The Cardinals swept all three flights of doubles, with junior
Cydney Bond (Peru, N.Y./Peru) and senior
Sarah Hoeffner (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) winning, 8-3, at No. 1, sophomores
Samantha Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and
Nicole Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) prevailing, 8-1, at No. 2 and senior
Bri Miller (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) and sophomore
Jacqueline Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) triumphing, 8-2, at No. 3.
In singles play, Bond won, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1, Hoeffner prevailed, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2,
Nicole Svantner triumphed, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5 and Miller topped her opponent, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6.
Plattsburgh State rises to 1-0 overall (1-0 SUNYAC) with the win and visits SUNYAC rival SUNY Cortland tomorrow at 11 a.m. Oswego falls to 0-1 overall (0-1 SUNYAC) with the loss and hosts three-time defending SUNYAC champion SUNY New Paltz tomorrow at 1 p.m.
