PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's volleyball team remained undefeated this season inside Memorial Hall with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) victory over non-conference SUNY Canton on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals hit .141 for the match while holding the Kangaroos to -.080 hitting. Plattsburgh State held a 5-2 edge in service aces and a 9-6 margin in blocks, while Canton owned the upper hand in digs, 35-32.
Plattsburgh State rises to 7-7 overall with the win and next hosts Fredonia on Friday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. Canton drops to 2-12 overall with the loss and next visits SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m.
After Canton took a 7-5 lead in the first, Plattsburgh State went on a six-point tear, and a pair of Kangaroo attack errors gave the home team an 11-7 advantage. The Cardinals continued to maintain their lead down the stretch, and a kill by sophomore defensive specialist/outside hitter
Payton Zophy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) sealed a 25-18 win for Plattsburgh State in the first.
A total of 13 straight points in the second set broke open a 16-3 lead for Plattsburgh State, and while Canton eventually went on a 5-1 surge of its own, the deficit was too large to overcome, and a block assist by junior outside hitter/opposite

Ann Beauchamp (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) and a Kangaroo setting error handed the Cardinals a 25-15 victory in the second.
Canton controlled the momentum in the early going of the third set, reaching its high-water mark when it took a 13-7 lead following a Cardinal attacking error. Plattsburgh State stormed back with seven unanswered points, and a service ace by senior setter
Allyssa Rock (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) gave the Cardinals a 14-13 advantage. The two teams went back and forth before a 7-1 Plattsburgh State run brought up match point at 24-18. The Kangaroos scored two points before Beauchamp and
Payton Zophy clinched the set and match win with a block assist.
Payton Zophy keyed the Cardinal attack with 12 kills, while Braun hit .438 with nine kills and two errors on 16 total attempts. Sophomore setter
Emma Rivers (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown West) and Rock dished out 16 and seven assists, respectively, running the 6-2 offense, while senior libero/defensive specialist
Maddy Zophy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) defended a match-high 10 digs. Beauchamp led the Cardinals' blocking efforts with seven block assists on the evening.
For Canton, first-year right side Alyssa Adams registered eight kills and fashioned a .353 hitting percentage.
